This one was one of our own -Yosua and Carin- we are the two founders of First Sunday (and yes, we are married to each other!). Our families' heritage was Chinese, whereas we were both born in different parts of Indonesia. We've lived most of our lives in Australia and we met each other in Sydney in 2016.
Our extended family came to celebrate our big day, and we wanted to celebrate them in return. We understand that, especially for the older family members, our western wedding customs and proceedings would seem foreign. They might not even enjoy the food that will be served. And so in the evening before our wedding day, we threw a traditional Chinese Indonesian Tea Ceremony
We chose the incredible Chinese Garden of Friendship in Darling Harbour as the setting. The Tea Ceremony is about showing respect to everybody who came before us. Following that we had a Chinese banquet which everybody enjoyed immensely -look at those happy smiling faces!
In our wedding styling, we moved beyond the expected reds and incorporating a palette of rich autumn hues. This colour choice was carefully crafted to harmonise with the venue’s vibrant surroundings, a space full of character yet challenging to style due to its strong preexisting colours. The result was a design that honoured tradition with a modern sensibility that brought warmth, elegance, and a sense of belonging to this unique space
