These lovebirds met each other the old school way -on a night out with friends, who insisted it wasn't a set up.
If you've met these two you'd know that they were meant to be together; they were both so warm, loving and kind. By way of a vibe check, they could have been the same person!
They are also big foodies, and a family man/woman through and through. As always, we wanted to bring out all of these qualities that make our couple 'them' in planning and styling their big occasion. What results is as follows.
The Venue Selection
Having taken the time to get to know the couple and understand their dreams for their wedding day, we landed on 12 Micron as the space for their wedding reception. Not only is it a foodie's paradise, it also has a very elevated, blank canvas feel -which is important because what Jess and Ben are after is not boring!
This space started out as a fine dining restaurant, before the demand for event book outs got overwhelming and they decided to become a dedicated event venue. The luxurious fit out around the space reflected that fine dining past, and so did the furnishing, tablewares (yes, even the plates and cutleries), and the facilities -all are above and beyond what is standard in other wedding venues.
We activated the shelving unit in the venue's foyer to be a seating chart. And while guests are at it, they'd also see photos of the couple going back from where they are now to their childhood, and even some wedding photos from their parents! A visual narrative of their love story so far. The styling ties it all together.
In terms of wedding styling, Jess and Ben didn't start with a defined look, but they knew they wanted it to be fun and colourful. We took our time to understand their sense of aesthetics, including a visit to their home, where we saw many modern and eclectic homewares. From there, a vision was born!
And judging from this Instagram comment the bride shared with us, it seems like we hit the nail on the head!
These guest favours were the source of so much fun in the reception. Lots of selfies, some video calls even, and in the above, somebody put together their extended family tree!
Is it a gift, is a place card, is it a show of how much the couple appreciates you -their wedding guest- in their lives and for being here tonight? It's all of them!
Here are some of their reactions captured in video:
After the wedding Jess and Ben put these guest illustrations together into a big artwork. It now decorates their home as a sweet reminder of the best day of their lives.
This wedding caught the attention of the editors at Hello May magazine, and we were privilege to be featured in their article 'Top 25 Wedding Planner & Stylist' (28/02/2025).
They went on to say:
“What we really adore about First Sunday is their ability to ingeniously and subtly weave little Easter egg elements of your backstory throughout the event experience, making the day even more memorable for you and your guests.”
“Their artistry is classy, classic and beyond beautiful”
via Google Reviews:
We could not have gotten through wedding planning and pulling off our dream day without the support of First Sunday’s Yosua and Carin. They are the dream team. Yosua took all administrative tasks off our plate and was super organised. He answered every small and seemingly silly question we had, at all times – communication was top notch. If there was an issue, he’d find and provide options for a solution. He has great relationships with vendors because of how friendly and professional he is.
Every element of Carin’s styling for our reception – from the flowers and table settings to the seating chart and menus – was stunning. We were blown away when we stepped into the venue! Carin kept us in the loop throughout the whole design process and created clear concepts so we could envision the finished result. Our guests commented on how beautiful the styling was, and how personal it felt – friends said they could see bits of us in all the details.
Both Yosua and Carin’s support as on-the-day coordinators meant our day went off without a hitch. They really went above and beyond! We didn’t have to think about any logistics on the day and could be present and enjoy every moment.
On top of all this, we couldn’t have asked for lovelier people to work so closely with on our wedding. They made a big effort to get to know us to ensure our day would be reflective of us and a memorable event for our guests. Thank you Yosua and Carin!
